The Perils of Flea and Tick Season
Well folks, flea and tick season is upon us (as are the early dog days of summer!). One of the most frequent problems we see this time of year are animals presenting to our veterinary hospital with skin or other health problems related to fleas and ticks. By the time you notice fleas or ticks on your pet, the fleas have already injected salivary proteins into your dog or cat’s skin, both have had the opportunity to transmit infectious agents, and both have begun laying eggs in your home and yard! To make things worse, ticks can transmit disease agents to your dog or cat before the pests are even found and removed.
